Quirindi Library named among Australia’s best

The search for Australia’s most-loved library is on, and Quirindi Library has been nominated with the best of the best. The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) run the ‘Australia’s Favourite Library’ awards to give millions of book lovers the chance to let others know about the outstanding services provided by local libraries.  The Quirindi Library is a great regional resource and the enthusiastic head librarian, staff and volunteers inspire reading and learning across the whole community. The ALIA will announce the award winner on 19th May 2014 and you can vote online until 22nd April.

Quirindi is a country town with the amenities of a large regional centre, and our library is a fantastic example of this. There’s so much to do and learn at the library – and best of all, it’s free! Here are some of our favourite ways for the whole family to make the most of this excellent facility:

  • Attend one of the many different events which are held throughout the year – recently, Quirindi Library has been host to a free digital photography workshop, an epic kids’ scavenger hunt and a ‘Tech Savvy Seniors’ workshop series. Check out the Library’s Facebook page – it’s updated every week with upcoming events, news and photos.

  • Spend some quality time with the kids or grandkids at Story Time every Monday at 10:30am – listen to some fantastic children’s books followed by a fun craft session.

  • Join the ‘Friends of Quirindi Library’ or ‘Friends of Werris Creek Library’ and meet the lovely team of people helping out with reading and craft sessions, theming decorations for special holidays and providing morning tea at many events.

  • There’s a huge collection of books available to borrow, but did you know you can also download digital magazines and use the library’s computers or WiFi – all completely FREE!

  • ‘Meet A Friend’ is a monthly event held at the library, which brings people together to hear fascinating local speakers share their skills and passions. Come along for a social afternoon tea and a great opportunity to learn something new.

  • Have you ever finished a book and been dying to talk about it straight away? You’re not alone – join the library’s Book Club for some top reads and spirited discussion!

  • Follow “Quirindi Library Australia” on Pinterest for their collection of reading-related quotes and art, book suggestions and library inspiration from around the world.

  • And last but not least…make sure you VOTE for the Quirindi Library to be Australia’s Favourite Library!

Our excellent libraries, schools, sport and community organisations and clubs, and the passionate people who run them all contribute to make Quirindi and the Liverpool Plains Shire a great place to live.
