The hilarious LEGO Movie (PG) is one of those family flicks that parents will secretly like just as much as the kids! Catch it at 1:30pm Saturday and Sunday, or watch disaster on a Biblical scale with Russell Crowe in Noah (M), showing at 4pm both days. Enjoy your movie in the historic Royal Theatre, which has been painstakingly restored and is run by local volunteers. Upcoming films include Captain America, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Muppets Most Wanted and The Other Woman – check out the program online.

This yearly carnival is a huge weekend of polo at the Quirindi Show Grounds, starting at 7am both days. Clubs from across country New South Wales will compete in Open, Women’s, Junior and Sub-Junior categories with loads of prizes and trophies to be won. There’s live entertainment and dinner on Saturday night ($10 for adults or $20 family special!) with full bar and canteen open all weekend. Visit NSW Polocrosse for full information.
May 18: The Great Nundle Dog Race
Nundle is a little town 55km east of Quirindi via Lindsays Gap Road. This unique race day (rescheduled from 4th May due to bad weather) is a fundraiser for the Nundle Public School P&C and attracts farmers and stationhands to pit their champion working dogs against each other in the 100m Great Race! There are more than 20 events, including Doggy High Jump and Steeplechase. It’s great fun for spectators, and kids can even enter the Junior Dog Race with their fastest four-legged buddy. Entry to the Nundle Recreation Ground is by gold coin donation and the first race is at 10:30am.
